Extraccion de otolitos de juveniles de pozas intermareales / Otolith extraction of juvenile fishes from intertidal pools

Dentro del marco del proyecto FONDECYT 1150296, la biólogo marino Gissella Castillo-Hidalgo y la estudiante del Magíster en Oceanografía, Ana María Galeano, de Colombia, están iniciando la extracción de otolitos sagitta de juveniles recién asentados de trombollito de tres aletas Helcogrammoides chilensis, y la borrachilla Scartichthys viridis y S. gigas.

Inside the project FONDECYT 1150296, marine biologist Gissella Castillo-Hidalgo and the student of the Master in Oceanography program, Ana Maria Galeano, from Colombia, has just started the extraction of sagitta otoliths of the recently settled individuals of triplefin Helcogrammoides chilensis and the blennies Scartichthys viridis and S. gigas.

Microzooplancton proyecto CIMAR Islas - Microzooplankton project CIMAR islands

A continuación mostramos las identificaciones del microzooplancton recolectado en la estación 5, el 15 de Octubre de 2015 en aguas oceánicas frente a Caldera, norte de Chile, durante el crucero CIMAR 21. Estas muestras fueron recolectadas en lances verticales desde 100 m de profundidad, con una red cónica de 40 um de apertura de malla. Las identificaciones fueron realizadas por Macarena Díaz-Astudillo (LABITI).

Here we can see some examples of the identifications of microzooplankton collected at Station 5, during October 15, 2015, in oceanic waters off Caldera, northern Chile, during CIMAR 21 cruise. These samples were collected with vertical hauls from 100 m depth to surface, with a conical net of 40 um mesh size. IDs were done by Macarena Díaz-Astudillo (LABITI).

Nuevo muestreo de peces intermareales en Isla de Pascua / New collection of intertidal fishes in Easter Island

Durante la primera semana de julio de 2016, Javier Vera-Duarte y Yanara Figueroa, biólogos marinos de la Universidad de Valparaíso, realizaron recolecciones de peces intermareales en pozas de Hanga Roa y Vaihu, Rapa Nui, Isla de Pascua. El principal objetivo de estas recolecciones es aumentar la cantidad de juveniles y adultos del góbido Kelloggella disalvoi (paroko), para analizar los cambios morfológicos y dietarios en la historia de vida de este pez extremófilo.

During the first week of July 2016, Javier Vera-Duarte and Yanana Figueroa, marine biologists from the Universidad de Valparaíso, Chile, took biological samples of intertidal fishes from tidepools at Hanga Roa and Vaihu, Rapa Nui, Easter Island. The main goal of these collections is to analyse the shape and diet changes occurring during the life cycle of the extremophil gobiid Kelloggella disalvoi, called paroko in Rapa language.

Este viernes 01 de Julio de 2016 defendió su tesis de biólogo marino Camilo Rodríguez-Valentino, cuyo título fue "Crecimiento larval de la sardina común Strangomera bentincki (Norman, 1936) de la zona central de Chile: Variabilidad 2010-2013"

Last Friday 01 July 2016, Camilo Rodriguez-Valentino presented his thesis entitled "Larval growth of the Araucarian sprat Strangomera bentincki (Norman, 1936) from the central zone off Chile: Variability 2010-2013".

La comisión estuvo conformada por Guido Plaza (PUCV), Luis Cubillos (UdeC) y Mauricio F. Landaeta (UV).
